ABOUT Dr GUPTA
Dr Samir N Gupta MD, FRCPC is a Harvard and University of Toronto trained, board-certified dermatologist accredited in Canada and the United States. Dr. Gupta has over 10 years of practical medical, surgical, laser and cosmetic dermatological experience. He has treated over 100 000 patients of all skin types from all over the world for both medical and cosmetic conditions. He has extensive experience in removing moles and age spots form the skin as well as creating a youthful, rested appearance of the face non-surgically with fillers and Botox. His honest and direct approach to patient care is always well-received by his patients.
Dr. Gupta was born and raised in Toronto. Dr. Gupta obtained his Bachelor and Medical degrees from the University of Toronto. He completed a general medicine residency at McGill University followed by a residency in Dermatology at the University of Chicago. He subsequently completed a Fellowship in Laser and Cosmetic Dermatology at the Wellman Laboratories of Photomedicine, Massachusetts General Hospital at Harvard Medical School. As a fellow at Harvard medical school, Dr. Gupta studied under the tutelage of the renowned laser Dermatologist, Dr. R. Rox Anderson who is the inventor of nearly every modern day skin laser application. During his time at Harvard, Dr. Gupta won the Photomedicine Society and the Women’s Dermatological Society Laser Award. He also completed further fellowships in Washington DC and San Diego, training under luminaries in the Laser Dermatology world.
In 2014 Dr. Gupta was selected by the Ontario Medical Association to complete a York University Schulich School of Business mini-MBA in Physician Leadership. He is a passionate advocate of public education to prevent disease before it starts.
Dr Gupta writes for the Medical Post newspaper and has been featured on various media outlets including CTV Newsnet, CTV’s Canada AM, Dr. Marla Shapiro and Friends, CP24, OMNI, CFRB and CBC radio (see “TV” section). He has published over 50 peer and non-peer reviewed scientific articles and has lectured and presented in the fields of medical, cosmetic, and laser dermatology. Dr.Gupta has interests in journalism, politics and health policy and preventive medicine.
Dr. Gupta currently serves as the Ontario Medical Associations’ Chair for the Section on Dermatology representing the professional and political interests of all dermatologists in Ontario. In his role as chair, Dr. Gupta was a vocal advocate for banning tanning beds for youth in Ontario and Canada. He spearheaded the Ontario Medical Associations’ and Canadian Medical Associations’ efforts to adopt the banning of indoor tanning beds into law in Ontario under Bill 30. Dr. Gupta has been profiled as an innovator for his work in the field of Dermatology.
In 2015 Dr.Gupta was re-appointed by the Ontario Ministry of Health to serve as executive member on the Ontario governments’ Physician Payment Review Board (PPRB).
In 2016 Dr. Gupta was amongst a group of ten Ontario physicians who served on the Negotiations Advisory Committee (NAC). The NAC was a high-level OMA advisory committee created to guide contract negotiations with the current provincial Liberal government.
With his experience in the laser world, Dr. Gupta served on the College and Physician of Ontario’s Independent Health Facilities Laser Task Force.
Dr. Gupta consults as a Dermatology expert and speaker for various pharmaceutical, legal, insurance, and consulting companies.
